Why MiME? MiME is a design-led project that will focus on the typically neglected qualities associated with the experiential aspects of digital media, tools and spaces within the home setting. The project aims to innovate in a new field of computing by supporting people's subjective, emotional and social experiences. MiME will develop concepts for new forms of intimate media experience through complex computer-enhanced and networked tools but in a subtle, tangible and familiar manner. The MiME project will explore how the combination of innovative human-focused methodologies will help designers understand and deal qualitatively with the subjective, the social, the emotional and the personal. The design process in MiME will be grounded in ethnographic research combined with an ongoing dialogue with real users which will form a core part of the experience design process. These methods should help designers to rein in the potential misapplication of technology and promote the design of meaningful interactions and experiences. Finally, the MiME project focuses on the European context to respond to the need for a specifically European approach to the design and development of intimate media experiences in the home. |
